Age and ID verification
CTG Vape Shop will sell only to adults who are of legal age in their province or territory. Federal law treats a store's product pages as advertising, and Health Canada says that online vaping advertising must be kept away from young people by verifying the age and identity of every visitor. It also says that "check the box" age statements and self-declared birthdates are not enough.
So this public site has no product catalogue. The store, when it opens, will sit behind a real age and identity check.
Minimum ages
- 19 or older: British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut
- 18 or older: Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec
- 21 or older: Prince Edward Island
We will not ship to Quebec or Prince Edward Island. Ages for Newfoundland and Labrador and for Nunavut come from a secondary source and are still to be confirmed. Where an age is not confirmed, we use 19. See Shipping and provinces for sources.
The steps
- Province first. You choose your province or territory. The minimum age, and which products can be offered, follow from it.
- Identity and age check. An independent verification provider checks government-issued photo ID, usually with a live photo to match the ID to you. [TBC: verification provider and method]
- Access. Only after you pass the check will you see product information. You may be asked to verify again for a new account or session.
- Checkout. The name and date of birth on your order must match your verified identity. Orders that do not match are cancelled.
- Delivery. Parcels go by an age-verified delivery service. The carrier checks ID at the door and will not leave the parcel unattended or hand it to anyone under the minimum age.
What does not count as verification
- Ticking a box that says you are of age
- Typing in a date of birth
- Closing the notice that appears when you first visit this site. That notice is information only and does not give access to anything.
